Plastic Fantastic: The Advantages Of Protecting Your Warehouse Floors With Epoxy Coatings

Julian Caldwell

There are an enormous amounts of factors and variables to consider when it comes to operating a commercial warehouse, but one that is very commonly overlooked is keeping your warehouse floors in safe condition. It almost goes without saying that the concrete floors of an average warehouse take a tremendous punishment, with heavy goods, forklift trucks and near-constant foot traffic causing damage to the most solidly-laid concretes.

As such, protecting your warehouse's concrete floors with some kind of coating comes highly recommended, and it's hard to choose a better coating for protecting warehouse floors than epoxy coatings. These unassuming coatings may look practically identical to ordinary paints before they are applied, but the remarkably durability and properties of these coatings can be a tremendous boon for any warehouse. Here are a few of the main advantages of coating your warehouse floors with epoxy coatings:

Durability

Concrete floors may be pretty formidable even when unprotected, but adding an epoxy coating provides an extra layer of protection. Durability of your floors is further increased by the binding and strengthening effect the epoxy has as it chemically bonds to the concrete beneath -- this prevents the concrete from splitting, cracking or crumbling under all but the heaviest loads, and prevents damaged concrete from posing a trip hazard to your employees. Epoxy floor coatings are also highly heat resistant, and are capable of resisting most abrasive cleaning chemicals.

Waterproofing

Once dried, epoxy floor coatings form an extremely waterproof barrier across the top of your porous concrete. This prevents your concrete from becoming stained by accidental spills which can seep into the concrete's pores. The waterproof surface also makes cleaning your floors a much easier task, allowing you to exchange expensive concrete cleaning solutions for a good old-fashioned mop and bucket.

Sanitation

Because epoxy coatings create such a smooth, waterproof surface, they are much easier to keep free of germs and other pathogens. This is particularly important in warehouses that handle organic materials (such as pot plants or landscaping supplies), and provides a cleaner, safer environment for your employees.

Aesthetics

Besides all of these practical concerns, epoxy coatings simply look better than bare concrete floors, and can help make an otherwise drab warehouse a more pleasant place to work. They are available in an enormous variety of colours and shades; dark colours can help hide superficial scuffs and tyre tracks on your floors, while pale colours can increase ambient light levels in your warehouse, making it a less claustrophobic place to work.

About Me
Building Your Dream Apartment

Hi! My name is Robert. I live in Brisbane with my wife and our two kids. For many years, I have been saving up money so I could build our dream home. I first saw my dream home when I was aged 21. I was on a holiday to the USA and was staying with friends in California. While down on the beach one day, I spotted a lovely mansion house which was high up on the cliffs. I decided that one day, I would like a house like that. Last year, I instructed a team on house builders to begin construction of our new home and I couldn't be happier. I have learnt so much from the experience, I decided to start this blog.
