Why Asbestos Is Still A Problem

Julian Caldwell

There have been many improvements to operational health and safety when it comes to construction and the materials used in buildings. In the past, it was not uncommon for workers to experience an injury on the job, and the quality of these buildings may not compare to modern structures. Some of those buildings that were constructed in the past may still be harbouring some hidden dangers. Nowhere is this more obvious than with asbestos.

Why It Is Such A Widespread Issue?

It is hard to imagine now, with all the knowledge that people have of asbestos, that it was so popular for such a long period of time, but it really cannot be underlined enough how ubiquitous it was. From cement to cloths, tires to roofing tiles, almost every industry used something that contained a piece of asbestos. However, while other industries that used asbestos were easier to fix in a single generation, as the products got old and were thrown out, asbestos used in construction poses a more serious threat. Even now, many homes and businesses around Australia still have asbestos in their walls and as part of their flooring and roofing.

How Do You Even Know If You Have It In Your Building?

If your home or business was built after the 1990s, then you are pretty much guaranteed to be safe from asbestos, as that was when it was made illegal. Other than that, there really is no sure-fire way to know whether or not you have asbestos in your home or business just by looking. The only way to be confident is to schedule an asbestos inspection and testing service, which will get laboratory results back confirming or denying the presence of asbestos with absolute certainty.

What Then?

If your building does have asbestos, it will need to be removed by experts who have proper safety gear and training in this field. Asbestos removal is dangerous to those who carry it out, which is why they must wear specific PPE to keep the fibres from entering their lungs and wreaking havoc. Luckily, there are still many asbestos removal companies out there who can help, and they work quickly and efficiently so that you can move on with your life and sleep easy at night, knowing there is no danger of asbestos to you, your family or your employees.

For more information about asbestos removal, contact a local company.

About Me
Building Your Dream Apartment

Hi! My name is Robert. I live in Brisbane with my wife and our two kids. For many years, I have been saving up money so I could build our dream home. I first saw my dream home when I was aged 21. I was on a holiday to the USA and was staying with friends in California. While down on the beach one day, I spotted a lovely mansion house which was high up on the cliffs. I decided that one day, I would like a house like that. Last year, I instructed a team on house builders to begin construction of our new home and I couldn't be happier. I have learnt so much from the experience, I decided to start this blog.
